Limited Addiction: Daphne Guinness Collection {From January 2012}

19 Sep

This is the first glimpse into the palette and colours imagined and created by Daphne Guinness. Daphne is her art. This is part of her discovery and evolution. “This collection is a window into my imagination.” — Daphne Guinness

The imagery alone is badass right!  What I was most excited for in this collection though was the blush ombre’s.  I don’t own any, as I missed out on the Spring Colour Forecast Collection which was released back in 2010.  Initially I wanted them all because a. everyone went CRAZY over them and b. well… just look at them!  They’re gorg!

Fortunately, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m past that phase in my collecting where I’m getting stuff just because I want it, rather it has to be a must have… for ME.  With Spring Colour Forecast I wanted all four blush ombre’s, (Azalea Blossom, Ripe Peach, Vintage Grape, and Springshine), but after I saw the swatches, only three worked for me.  Wow 3/4… big cut right, lol.

Anywho, Daphne Guiness only repromoted two of the four anyway, and of the two, one was what didn’t work for me, Azalea Blossom.  While it’s a beautiful color, its just way to light for me, which translates as a waste of money.

After all of that… what I DID pick up was the absolute gorgeous and extremely pigmented Vintage Grape.

Blush Ombre Vintage Grape

MAC Blush Ombre Vintage Grape

Blush ombre’s are described by MAC as, “A powder blush featuring a shade wave of gentle ombre hues. Ultra-fine formula provides the cheeks with flawless, medium-buildable coverage and lightly pearled, natural-looking radiance.”   Basically its three shades of the same color ombred from lightest to darkest.  You can use each color individually (using a smaller brush) or swirl all colors together with your blush brush.  Thats four different possibilities!

On to the swatches…

Blush Ombre Vintage Grape w/Flash

Ummm… do you see the pigmentation!  This is all with just one swipe of my finger! I’ll have this powder forever.  So as you can see, there are literally four different colors in this ombre.

Blush Ombre Vintage Grape w/o Flash

I absolutely friggin love it!!  I will be getting a lot of wear out of it this fall/winter season.  Bring on the vampy looks please!!

P.s. I’m hoping at some point they’ll repromote Ripe Peach and Springshine sometime soon… I’ll be the first in line to scoop them up!

Limited Addiction: MAC Hey Sailor! Summer Collection – June 2012

11 Oct

“Set sail this summer with a colour collection inspired by the glam of vintage pin-up girls. Go overboard with the never-ending colours of Pro Longwear Lip Pencils, Zoom Waterfast Lash, Lipglass and more!”MAC

As a girl who’s obsessed with anchors (my next tattoo actually) and all things nautical, imagine how GEEKED I was when the news of MAC’s Hey Sailor! Collection surfaced!  Especially since I completely missed out on 2008’s Naughty Nautical’s Collection.  What makes Hey Sailor! more special to me however, is the limited edition packaging.  I love it!

Isn’t it absolutely gorg?!  At first glance, I thought I was in trouble, ie. would want everything, but as usual once the swatches hit the net, I was able to narrow it down… a LOT!  I took home wayy less than what I anticipated, but we’ll get to that later.

MAC Highlight Powder in Crew

Crew, of course was the alleged star of the show… but I took a major pass!  She’s clearly just nice to look at and I’ve passed that phase in my makeup life

Hey Sailor! Lipglass: Blessedly Rich, Cut Loose, Orange Tempera, Riviera Life, & Send Me Sailing

Lipsticks: Red Racer, Sail La Vie, Salute, & To Catch A Sailor

So!  On to what I got…

MAC Hey Sailor! Collection Love the packaging!

As you can see I only picked up five products.  I won’t lie, there were a couple more items I wouldn’ t have minded getting, but I’m really trying to get in the habit of buying only what I deem as a MUST HAVE before I fall in the trap of hoarding products I’ll never or very seldomly use.  It’s hard… but I’m making it work.

Fleet Fast Blush

Fleet Fast Blush

Fleet Fast Blush is absolutely GORG!  I’d describe it as a darkened coral/pink color with some reddish undertones that is very complementary to my complexion.  Fleet Fast is quite pigmented, so I suggest using a light hand so you don’t end up looking like a clown.  I love to use this color as an eyeshadow as well, mostly as a crease color.  I must say tho, if you want to use this as a shadow on the lid you’ll have to be a little heavy handed as it’ll come off a little sheer, but thats only if you’re my complexion or darker.

Sail La Vie & To Catch A Sailor Lipsticks

Sail La Vie & To Catch A Sailor Lipsticks

Sail La Vie lipstick is… BRIGHT!  There’s no better way to describe it.  It definitely isn’t a true red color, as I see lots of orange undertones in it.  I would imagine it’s comparible to Lady Danger or So Chaud, but I don’t own either, so I can’t confirm.  I do intend to pick then up eventually, and when I do, I’ll be sure to make a comparison post.

To Catch a Sailor lipstick is a light brown nude color with a frost finish.  Now frost is my absolute LEAST favorite finish in a lipstick, but something about this color had me curious and I had to give it a try while in the store.  First let me say its far from gritty, which is my major grievance with frost lippies.  The rough glitter particles usually tears my lips up and dries them out, major turn off, but To Catch a Sailor just glided on nice and smoothly.

My other major grievance with frost lippies is the “Golden Girl” effect.  Which means basically all I need is some pale powder blue eyeshadow and I’m ready for my bridge tournament on the veranda. I’m good.  The frost level on To Catch a Sailor is pretty low, so its completely tolerable since I love the color so much.

Blessedly Rich Lipglass

I’m sorry, this swatch does it no justice whatsoever!  But you guys are going to have to just take my word for it when I say it ‘s absolutely gorgeous.  One of the reasons I truly love Blessedly Rich is that it can be worn alone.  It is a beautiful dark peach color with subtle shimmer that glides on smoothly and has great staying power. I find with a lot of my lip glosses, as much as I love them and enjoy wearing them, sometimes alone, they aren’t really saying much and I buy them to enhance the color or finish of my other lip products.  Not the case for Blessedly Rich though… she’s the bomb.com!

Pro Longwear Lip Liner in Shore Leave

I just HAD to have this pencil.  When I saw the swatches for Shore Leave online and then swatched it myself in the MAC store, I was like YES! A perfectly bright true pink coral… right up my alley… has me written ALL over it.  Then I tried it on my lips…

Don’t get my wrong, I still absolutely love the color and don’t regret buying it.  But damn!  Could it be any drier!?!?! I suppose thats what makes it “Pro Longwear,” because it grips your lips, but gosh! I’m def going to have to put in a little extra work to make it work for me.  Once I find the perfect combinations to make it work, I’ll be sure to do an updated post for those who had the same issues as me.  I refuse to believe I was the only one!

Anywho… that tis all!

Lata Lovahs!

My MAC Beauties Alicia, Shayla, and Kylah!

Shout out to my favorite MAC girls!  Especially Kylah who makes sure I get everything I want and think I need, as well as keeping my pockets on E! xx

Limited Addiction: MAC Tour de Fabulous Collection {January 2012}

11 Oct

MAC’s Tour de Fabulous Collection is one of those collections I wish I got more of.  The collection consist of 11 lipglass glosses and 8 lip pencils. I was only able to pick up one of the glosses unfortunately because I didn’t get a chance to send in my list like I normally do and by the time I showed up… they were all gone.  *WOMP*

Sooo, all I was able to get my hands on was Style-Packed lipglass…

Style-Packed Lipglass

Style-Packed is a GAWGEOUS bright fuchsia pink color with blue undertones that is to die for!  For a lipglass it has an excellent opaque color payoff, and it applies easily, has great lasting power, and doesn’t settle into fine lines.  It’s absolutely perfect!

I wasn’t really interested in any of the pencils.  They were nice and all, but nothing worth doing back flips over.  The other two lipglasses I wish I got my hands on were the collections namesake, Tour de Fabulous and Real Posh.

Photo Credit: The Beauty Is A Geek

Tour de Fabulous is a beautiful coral color (right up my alley) and has been compared to Strange Potion, from Venomous Villians and later Surf Baby collections.  I already own Strange Potion and I LOVE it!  I don’t have a back up for it, so being able to scoop this would have been great.  Maybe one day I’ll find it at a CCO.

Real Posh is a sultry deep purple color that I really wanted.  At this point I’m sure its dupable, but the name alone has me sold!  It kinda sorta reminds me of Rebel Lipglass from the Fashion Sets Collection, which I’ll be reviewing shortly, but not as rich.  So technically I’m fine without it, but like I said, the name had me sold!

Limited Addiction: MAC’s Shop MAC Cook MAC Collection – February 2012

3 Jul

“Try and Buy a delicious, delovely, delectable, divine, degorgeous, de-with-it, degroovy assortment of Eye Shadow x 4 in wearable brights perfect for Spring. Treat yourself to Lipstick in heavenly hues, mouthwateringly Kissable Lipcolour and Cremeblend Blush. This Spring, shop ‘til you drop with a tongue-in-cheek collection that elevates the everyday into the extraordinary. Whether it’s detergent or diamonds, produce or Prada, everyone loves to shop, shop, shop!” –MAC

Obviously the imagery got me!  How fun!  And bright… and cool!  Not sure how they come up with these concepts, but whatevz… I love em, lol.

Shop MAC Cook MAC is a fairly decent sized collection, EVERYthing at first glance looks like “I Must Have That…” but then you delve in, read reviews, see swatches, and you’re bought back down to earth, as was I.

There were quite a few repromotes in the collection and that’s always good because usually that means its one, two, or three things less you have to buy, but unfortunately for me, that wasn’t the case.  Unfortunate because the things they repromoted, I didn’t have… and wanted.  And fortunate because… well because I want them!

The collection consisted of lippies, Kissable Lip Colors, Tendertones, eyeshadow quads, nail laquers, Cremeblend Blushes, and a few other items.

What excited more than anything were the lip products… big surprise here!  If I could have, I prob would have bought them all, well almost.  There were six lipsticks, five Kissable Lip Colors, and four Tendertones.

Innocence Beware, Naughty Saute, Watch Me Simmer, Quick Sizzle, Dish It Up, & Runaway Red

Kissable Lip Colors: Enchantee, Woo Me, So Vain, Scan-delicious, & Flaunting It

I really had to hold myself back a carefully choose the items I felt I could not live without.  Here’s what I narrowed it down too…

Don’t you just love the packaging!  The one thing I don’t love about it is its not the actual box you’re looking at… they’re inserts.  So inside of this wonderfulness is the regular black boxes.  If they really wanted to make my day, they would have put these gorgeous springy looking designs on the products themselves, as I’m a suck for that ish and they probably would have gotten a few more dollars out of me.  But, oh well!

Kissable Lip Colors in Enchantee & So Vain

Kissable Lip Color in Enchantee & So Vain

Enchantee is a soft blue based pink that glides on very opaque.  That’s the thing I like about these Kissable Lip Colors, to be honest, they’re like liquid lipstick, but it’s the texture that disturbs me.  It’s really hard to explain!  They just feel… weird! They don’t grip my lips like a lipstick or hold on to them like a lipgloss, they’re just… there.  I enjoy the shades way to much to let that stop me from buying or wearing them, but I just needed to get that off my chest.  Does anyone else feel the same?

So Vain is a deeper orange based coral which also glides on very opaque.  I would personally keep the eyes very simple when rocking this color and its kind of in your face.  Add a soft peachy/pinky cheek (or coral if you’re feeling a bit monochromatic that day), and you’re good to go.

Of the five that were available, the only other one that was unique to me was Woo Me, but I already have it in my stash from its original debut in 2010’s Peacocky collection.

Shop MAC Cook MAC Lipsticks

Lippies: Watch Me Simmer, Naughty Saute, Quick Sizzle

Watch Me Simmer, Naughty Saute, & Quick Sizzle

Watch Me Simmer is a super intense, creamy, opaque coral pink, with an Amplified finish.  This color is BRIGHT ya’ll!  I’m talking neon, you seem my lips coming before you see me bright and I absolutely love it!  I will def be rocking this with a super soft face either on the beach, on a boat, or in a club!

Quick Sizzle, Naughty Saute, & Quick Sizzle

Naughty Saute is another one of those really pretty blue based pinks that MAC is famous for.  It’s very pretty and I absolutely love it, but I’ll be honest and admit that its not that unique.  I really could’ve skipped it, but I “Backed 2 MAC” all the lippies in this collection, so it didn’t really cost me anything.  Naughty Saute has a cremesheen finish, is super creamy and opaque, and easy to work with.  This color can be word at its full intensity or toned down by blotting it on and layering with a lip gloss for the office.

Quick Sizzle is a deep blue based fuchsia color and has a matte finish.   I wouldn’t call it a traditional matte though, as it has a slight sheen, its very creamy, and isn’t drying at all.  I LOVE that, because even though Ruby Woo is my most coveted red lippie, my actual lips hate it… SO drying!  I deal with it tho!

I absolutely LOVE these colors!  As I said, they’re all super opaque, so if you don’t think you can handle the full color… I suggest you blot it on and build it up to the level you’re comfortable with.  Another thing I can say about these colors is that they’re pretty long lasting and Quick Sizzle actually stains my lips a bit.  I just have to be sure I wear it on a day when I’m sure I will want to wear it ALL DAY, as I’m known to switch up my lipsticks sometimes depending on my mood.  I get over stuff pretty quick… It’s the gemini in me, lol.

Tendertone Hot n Saucy

Hot n Saucy is my first tendertone… ever!  They’ve been around for awhile and very rarely make an appearance.  Honestly I was tempted to scoop them all, because only God knows when they’ll be repromoted again.  But I decided to be good and just pick up the one that appealed to me most.  It was between this red one, and the orange one called Purring, which was equally bright in color.

This sheer balm smells of juicy watermelon, is super glossy, and is pretty moisturizing.  I don’t regret picking it up and am looking forward to MAC releasing some more as I really enjoy the product.

Whatever you do, don’t let this swatch or how it looks in the pot fool you.  You’re only really seeing it like this because I’m so light.  When I say it has a slight tint, I mean slight… in every sense of the word.  I don’t mind that though.  I can see myself using this product at the beach (it also has a SPF of 12!) and throughout my day when I don’t have time to or just don’t feel like reapplying lipstick.  You know how it is in the summer… one really can’t be bothered.

After seeing more swatches and a few YouTube tutorials, I caved in and ordered two more products, smh… I know.  Unfortunately I can’t show my own swatches of them because I had them delivered to a different address where I haven’t been able to pick them up from yet.  They are the eyeshadow quad, Call Me Bubbles, and cremeblend blush, Florida, which is my first cremeblend blush ever, so I really can’t wait to get my hands on it.  I’ll be sure to update the post later once I get my hands on them.

In the end, I’m very happy with my purchases.  This was a great collection and I don’t regret anything I picked up.

Limited Addiction: It’s Chanel Dawling!

5 May

So back in September I did a post featuring my petite Chanel collection and I briefly spoke on these limited edition Illusion D’ombre Eye Shadows.  I absolutely couldn’t wait for them to arrive and when they did, I ran to scoop them up.  Of the six, there were three that I wanted, one of which EVERYone and their momma wanted as well… so I ended up with two. *Sad Eyes*

Just to briefly recap, the Illusion D’ombre Eye Shadows are pressed powder shadows that come in a pot and have a creamy/moose like texture.  They are highly pigmented and can be used alone or as bases for other powder shadows.  Chanel says, “An innovative gel texture that is both soft and cushiony allows it to be worn as eyeshadow or eyeliner.”  They’re truly a unique product.

Illusion D’Ombre #85 Mirifique and #84 Epatant

On to the swatches…

Epatant & Mirifique

Epatant & Mirifique

Lets talk about Epatant… LOVE this color!  As awesome as the swatches look, trust me, there is nothing like seeing this in person.  (That goes for both actually)  I’m talking glitter and shimmer for the GOD’s honey!  A beautiful taupey color that also reads gold, depending on where the light hits it, Epatant is the more wearable of the two and I envision layering all sorts of other powder shadows on top… MAC’s Satin Taupe and Urban Decay’s Sidecar, more specifically…

Mirifique is a SUPER black, super sparkly, super sexy shadow that I can’t get enough of.  Truthfully, I’ll probably get less use out of it because its just way over the top for daily looks, but date nights, clubbing, and special occasions is where this baby will get its shine.  Mirifique is a stunner all on her own, but of course layering another shadow makes things more fun!  The obvious choices would be MAC’s Black Tied or Urban Decays Creep, but I’d like to turn it up with a metallic silver, like Urban Decay’s Gunmetal for example.

One thing… Chanel ain cheap, and these babies were a whopping $32 a pop!  I don’t EVEN want to know what they’re going for eBay since they’re limited edition and completely soldout, but if you can scoop one up at the retail price, I totally recommend them!  These were purchased as a treat, so no, you won’t find me at a Chanel counter on a regular basis! 🙂

Limited Addiction: MAC’s Semi Precious Summer 2011

2 Oct

My love of jewel tones had me foaming at the mouth when I heard this collection was coming!  Just the thought of golds, purples, royal and teal blues, green and ruby reds was filling me with joy and mentally preparing me for the beat down my wallet was gonna take… but alas… disappointment!  Don’t get me wrong… there were DEFINITELY stars of the show, but the entire production unfortunately fell flat.  Woomp Woommmp!

This is what MAC had to say…

We can all admire a girl with a 30-carat diamond. But the new dazzle is Semi-Precious. Gems that are rare in spirit, rich in substance and worn fluidly, on the skin. In MAC Semi-Precious, four finely milled gems – bronzite, black tourmaline, gold pyriate, and lilac lepidolite – bring their own earthy an spiritual affluence to three key elements of the mineralize collection: eyeshadows, skinfinish, and blush. Setting them off: a collection of colour, two mineralize skincare formulas, and four new limited-life split fibre brushes. Like everything this precious, these elements start off rare, and tend to get rarer… get rich while you can!

Lets start with saying this was a pretty huge collection.  Basically every category was covered.  It featured mineralized eyeshadows (where at first glance, are ALL must-haves), mineralize skin finishes, mineralize blushes, lippies, glosses, mascara, and new double sided/duo-fiber brushes.  He’s a look at the collection in its entirety…

When my MAC Diva Kyla (hey boo) gave me a call and told me to get my butt down there I was super DUPER excited!  It seamed like it took FOREVA to arrive. Once I got there, looking at it all was a bit overwhelming!  Everything was gorgeous and I knew I was going to want it ALL.   So I took on the task of swatching everything to begin my process of elimination.

Starting with the eyeshadows of course… everything looked uber rich and one would think they’d be super pigmented.  NOPE!  Most were sheer and though at first glance you’d imagine some unique crazy colors,  instead you get colors that could easily be duped.  *sigh*

So even though the collection kind of disappointed me, there were still a good number of pieces that were must-haves.  I picked out six products in total and I LOVE them all!

Clockwise: Golden Gaze Mineralize Eye Shadow, Feeling Flush Mineralize Blush, Smoked Ruby Eye Shadow, Hint of Sapphire Mineralize Eye Shadow, Semi Precious Rose Quartz Mineralize Skinfinish, and Natural Flare Cremesheen Glass (in the middle)

Semi Precious Rose Quartz Mineralize Skinfinish

Made up of two separate sections, the outer layer being a medium baby pink which is super soft and pigmented and the middle is made up of green sparkly goodness with some coppery veining.  The colors can be used either alone as a blush and highlighter or swirled together to create a beautiful pink shimmery blush or highlighter, depending on your complexion.

Here you see the two colors swatched separately and then swirled together.  As you ladies know, I love a multi-purpose product, and with the intensity of color this MSF gives, it can easily be used a an eyeshadow as well!  LOVE that!

Feeling Flush Mineralize Blush

Best way to describe the color is.... Pink! A beautiful shade, not to light, not to dark but just right. Soft and smooth, just a little touch of product on the brush is plenty. One thing I noticed about this blush that I can't say I have with other MAC blushes is the rosy scent. Not strong or offensive, but really delicate and expensive smelling. I like it.

Here’s a swatch.  As you can see it is very pigmented as I said above.  This is only one swipe of the finger, so a little goes a long way.  I’ll be enjoying this blush for some time to come as there’s no way I’ll be using it up any time soon.

I absolutely love this color on my complexion.  My lovely summer tan is pretty much non-existent at this point and I’ll only be getting lighter from here as I get quite pale in the winter.  Feeling Flush is going to be a perfect color to warm my complexion up.

Smoked Ruby, Golden Gaze, and Hint of Sapphire Mineralize Eye Shadow

Trust me when I say, these swatches don’t do the color payoff any justice what so ever.  Hint of Sapphire is a beautiful sparkly blue, but Smoked Ruby and Golden Gaze are simply the Bomb.com!  Smoked Ruby is a blackened ruby color that would be perfect on the lid or as a sexy crease color for a smokey look.  Its so vampy, I can’t wait to create some looks with it.

Now Golden Gaze... that's my baby! I LOVE it! My best description of it would be a deep, blackened gold with an antique finish... yea, that sounds about right! It is perfection! Most blogs have been comparing it to "Guilt By Association" from the 2009 Style Black collection, but I missed out on that so I can't compare. (On the low, the greedy kid in me still wants the other one as it was coveted!)

Natural Flare Cremesheen Glass

Brownish/Nudish Sparkly Goodness!

Nothing much to say here, just another nude color that I probably didn’t need, but clearly couldn’t resist.

So in the end folks I’m quite happy with the choices I made.  Even though I expected more from the collection, the amount of products that I really did enjoy, is plenty!

As you know… ANOTHER collection was pumped out the next week!
